Visiting Cape Cod Tourist Attractions

From Nantucket Island to Martha’s Vineyard and throughout the bay that makes up Cape Cod, tourism brings in many visitors to the curling southern peninsula of Massachusetts. With a rich history of maritime lore the quaint little townships that makeup the region are filled with people from all over the country who are interested in taking relaxing Cape Cod vacations away from their busy lives. While some people are drawn to the sea in search of their own sport fishing adventure, others come to the quiet area to enjoy the scenic landscapes that are dotted about with lighthouses and harbors.

With bicycle trails and old cobble stone streets that are still in use by the locals many of the Cape Cod tourist attractions lead vacationers from one historical point to another. For some the fascination with history and genealogy takes them to discover the harbor where the Mayflower brought passengers from England centuries ago. For others the museums that chronicle the whaling industry bring people to the area so they can hear the tales of the sea and capture the emotions of hunting whales with harpoons and long boats. Visiting the sites where Herman Melville wrote his literary masterpiece Moby Dick visitors can stay in the same accommodations as the author that has received worldwide acclaim.

While some people enjoy the fishing villages that are still the scene of commercial fishermen and sailing boats, there are artists who travel to the region to immortalize the timeless townships in their paintings and sketches. With the untamed beauty of the landscape many of the Cape Cod tourists travel to Massachusetts to find the peace and tranquility that comes from a relaxing afternoon spent driving up the coast and photographing the magnificent lighthouses that keep the sailing vessels safe. While the lights are now automated instead of being manned by a lighthouse keeper there are places where people can tour the towers that overlook the ocean.

As the whales pass by on the migration from the poles a number of people insist on spending their Cape Cod vacations out by the water’s edge where if they are lucky they can see the majestic creatures surfacing for air. Shooting water spouts up into the atmosphere the mighty mammals have attracted a lot of people that enjoy the diversity of the region. Travel to the area has been increasing annually as visitors return to their homes and tell tales of their vacation to one of the most interesting beauty spots on earth.
