Margaritaville Vacation Club resort coming to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

What Parrot Head wouldn’t want to own their own little piece of paradise in the middle of Margaritaville? Wyndham Vacation Ownership (WVO), the world’s largest vacation ownership company and a member of the Wyndham Worldwide family, and Margaritaville Hospitality Group have come together in a joint venture to transform the former Grand Beach Palace Resort into the first-ever Margaritaville Vacation Club (MVC) resort. This timeshare resort will be located on the northeast side of St. Thomas in the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands.

The resort is expected to open in early 2015 and will be the first resort of its kind in the world. Construction is scheduled to take place in two phases over the next three years. The hotel’s current 290 rooms will become 262 fully furnished condominium-style timeshare units. Renovations will begin with the seven beachfront buildings and common areas that include reception, pool area and 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar. A Margaritaville restaurant, dive shop, water sports activities and live music venues are also included in the plan.

“We’re thrilled to see construction begin at Margaritaville Vacation Club,” said Governor John P. de Jong Jr. “Hospitality is the livelihood of our island and this new resort will open up so many opportunities for the people of St. Thomas.”

The design team for the MVC resort includes L2 Studios Architecture, Harris Civil Engineers, Design Poole Interiors and McBride Company Designers. Renovation and construction will be done by J. Benton Construction of St. Croix and Moss & Associates of Florida. Local craftsmen are being sought out to work on the renovations of the former Grand Beach Palace Resort. When the St. Thomas Margaritaville resort is complete, there will be approximately 125 full-time jobs ranging from front desk clerks and sales associates to housekeeping and customer service.
