Most people dream of obtaining Six Packs. Very few people turn that dream into reality because of various misconceptions regarding obtaining their six-packs.
The formula for achieving a six pack:
Low Fat Percentage + Strong Abs Muscle
Most people will be able to comprehend why strong abs muscle is needed to obtain a six pack. However, a low body fat percentage is also essential for you to be able to show defined abs muscle.
It is a great mistake to think that 1,000 reps of abs exercise a day leads to your abs ‘showing’ when they become big. All the abs exercise in the world will not help as long as you still have body fat covering the muscles. You can never see your abs through a layer of body fat!
1)Eat 10-15% below your normal calorie maintenance level.
2)Spread your calories into 5-6 smaller meals a day instead of eating 2-3 big meals a day. Be aware of your portion size. This ensures that your metabolism is active continously throughout the day and keep you energise every day. However, eating too much of anything will become a barrier to obtaining your great abs dream.
3)Eat a source of complete, high quality protein with each meal. Examples of high quality protein would be lean meat, chicken, fish, protein power, egg whites. These will ensure that your muscle have enough protein to maintain and build itself.
4)Chose natural, complex carbohydrates such as vegetables, museli, oatmeal, yam, potatoes, brown rice and whole grains. You can start initially with 50% of your carbohydrate intakes from natural carbs
and reduce carb intake slightly if you are not losing fat. These is because these foods have low GI levels and will be able to keep you fuller for a longer period of time.
5)Avoid refined simple carbohydrates that contain white flour or white sugar. These carbohydrates are digested easily and you will become hungry very quickly, making you want to snack or eat another meal again.
6)Keep total fats low and saturated fats low. Aim for 20% of your calories intake from fats at the most. Look out for ‘good fats’ such as flaxseed oil, fish fat, nuts, seeds and so on which will be more effective as compared to a no-fat diet. This is due to the fact that essential fatty acids assists the fat burning process.
7)Drink plenty of water, at least 2L a day being a good guideline, thats the ‘recommended 8 glasses’ a day that most nutritionists recommend. Water is essential to the human body and helps the body in homeostatis. You need sufficient water for your body.
With these 7 tactics that helps to reduce your overall body fat content, you are now one step closer to defined abs. Combined with intensive ab training, you will be able to obtain defined abs.
