Champions for Kids Hosts Eleventh Annual RazorFest April 25

Fayetteville, Arkansas (PRWEB) April 15, 2015

Champions for Kids will host its eleventh annual RazorFest celebration Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the annual Red-White game at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. RazorFest, presented by Capri Sun, is a family-friendly event including games, inflatables, concerts, performances, autographs, mascots, healthy tips, booths featuring local nonprofit organizations, giveaways and more! Attendees will also have the opportunity to donate to a food drive benefiting the NWA Food Bank and the UA Full Circle Food Pantry.

“RazorFest is our state-wide flagship event,” said Adelaide Schaeffer, president and CEO of Champions for Kids. “We are proud to partner with the University of Arkansas athletic department to bring this event to the community each year to drive awareness for our mission to help children have access to the things they need in order to thrive. We are grateful to athletic director Jeff Long, head football coach Brett Bielema and Razorback athletics for this opportunity. To our knowledge, the University of Arkansas is the only school in the country to share its spring game with a free community event that benefits children.”

While the event is free to the public, attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good or other non-perishable food item to donate to the RazorFest Food Drive sponsored by iHeart Media. Champions for Kids hopes to collect 5,000 pounds of food which will provide support for more than 10,000 residents in Northwest Arkansas.

“The NWA Food Bank is committed to ‘Nourish NWA Communities by Feeding Hungry People.’ We are able to do this through strong partnerships with companies, organizations and events like Champions for Kids’ RazorFest,” said Robert Gearhart, Special Events and Marketing Coordinator for the NWA Food Bank. “61 percent of children in the area are on the free or reduced lunch program in their schools. It is with food drives and events like this that the NWA Food Bank is able to raise food and awareness to meet the needs of our most valued community members: children.”

Since the first RazorFest, this event has grown from engaging 22,000 people to now, on a good weather day, drawing more than 60,000 people from Arkansas and surrounding states.

Several local nonprofits will be present at the event, providing the community with the opportunity to connect with organizations that help provide for kids in need. In addition, the nonprofit organizations will have an opportunity to win one of eight awards totaling $ 50,000 by competing in a Champions for Kids Facebook voting contest leading up to the event. Winners will be announced at RazorFest. Participating organizations include: Teen Action Support Center, Prism Education Center, NWA Food Bank, Youth Bridge, LifeSource, JDRF of NWA, Elizabeth Richardson Center, NWA Children’s Shelter, CASA of NWA, The First Tee of NWA, Kendrick Fincher Foundation, Children’s Safety Center, Boys and Girls Club of Fayetteville, The Cobblestone Project, Ozark Football Association, Peace at Home Family Shelter, The CALL in NWA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NWA, United Cerebral Palsy of Arkansas and Pagnozzi Charities.
