CARMICHAEL, Calif. (PRWEB) March 09, 2015
Besides veneration as unequaled playwright, William Shakespeare is revered as one of history’s greatest poets. The preface of author T.J. King’s book “What Fool Would Challenge Shakespeare?: Going Toe to Toe with the Champion Sonneteer” (published by Trafford Publishing), however, identifies certain shortcomings in the bard’s sonnet collection, which King says leaves the title of champion open to question.
A new marketing campaign for “What Fool Would Challenge Shakespeare?” brings King’s 99 sonnets and his challenge against the Bard of Avon’s 154 sonnets to a wider audience in 2015.
Fully admitting his awe at many of his adversary’s verses, King invites his readers to get a sense of the conflict and fun in the idea of an underdog going up against an acknowledged and widely accepted world champion. Embracing the same poetic form utilized by that champion, King hopes the new uses to which he puts traditional verse will renew for readers the forgotten pleasure available in the structured play of rhyme and meter.
“Within our age’s Zeitgeist that encourages self-indulgent sloppiness in published poetry,” King says, “I wish to imprint the importance of craft structurally disciplined and aimed at a poem’s specific consummation.”
