With the New Year here many will be thinking of selling their old pride and joy and looking to buy a new Alfa in Sheffield. Selling your old car is always be a bit of a headache, youre never going to get what you paid for it but, you want to be able to get a decent price for it. The simplest way to get rid of your older motor is probably part exchange or one of the new car buying companies like We Buy Any Car.
To get the best price for your car, selling it privately is still the best way. If your old car is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition you should be able to sell it quickly and get a good price for it. Just like you, when someone comes to view your car they want to be presented with something that looks clean and mechanically sound. Private buyers are more than likely to make a decision on whether to buy or not to buy a car based on the exterior condition of it; no one wants to be an owner of an ugly car.
As a private seller there are a few things you can do to make sure your old pride and joy looks its best. I have three rules that have helped me sell cars in the past, make sure the car is:
Clean and Tidy, before taking pictures of the car ensure the car is given a good clean, inside and out.
Polish, a shiny car always fetches top dollars, overtime a cars paintwork can become dull especially the bonnet and boot lid. Get out some polish and give the whole car a good wax and polish. Remember a polished car will stay cleaner longer, even in the rain.
Paperwork, get all your old receipts, service book and log book ready for the buyer to view. If you have more than one key then get that ready too, prospective buyers like to see lots of paperwork and keys, if your car has service history make sure you highlight that in all adverts and mention it on viewings.
With these three simple steps you are sure to sell your car but, no one is going to pay over the odds for a used car so always price your car competitively, look at used car websites and see what other people are asking for similar models.
